Fire Guts Access Bank Branch in Lagos, No Lives Lost

Two vehicles were completely destroyed in the fire.

No lives were lost in a fire incident at a Lagos branch of Access Bank on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

The accident was caused by a fully loaded 33,000 litres diesel tanker inside the bank’s building at Adetokunbo Ademola, Victoria Island.

The tanker was dispensing diesel for the use of the bank’s generators when the fire outbreak started, according to the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

“A combined intervention of the emergency responders, LASEMA Response Team, Eko Hotel, LASG fire, UBA Fire Service, and Federal Fire are able to arrest the fire and stop it from escalating to further the building in the premises,” he said.

Access Bank said in a statement nobody was hurt. The fuel tanker and another car stationed close to it were completely destroyed in the fire.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the actual cause of the fire is currently unknown, and that an investigation would also reveal the extent of damage to the building.
