Kenyans on Friday, September 15, woke up to a disheartening update from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) hiking the prices of fuel products.

The agency announced that litres of petrol would retail by KSh 16 more, diesel by KSh 21.3, and Kerosene by 33.13, this being inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the provision of the contested finance law.

The upward review would see the commodities surpassing KSh 200 which has not been experienced before.

“The maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol increases by KSh 16.96, Diesel increases by KSh 21.32 per litre and Kerosene increases by KSh 33.13 per litre,” said EPRA.

EPRA attributed the review to the average landing cost of imported petrol, diesel, and kerosene.

The changes in price did not sit well with Kenyans who camped on social media to vent their frustration.

A clip of Ruto calling out his former boss for overseeing unfavourable hiking of fuel prices would then be thrown into the discussion.
