President William Ruto’s affordable housing project continues to gain momentum after he launched the construction of 220 housing units in Nakuru on Tuesday.

This is the second one under the affordable housing programme’s 200 per constituency project as promised by the President.

A similar project was launched in Gichugu, Kirinyaga, two weeks ago.

The government reiterated its commitment towards providing decent and affordable housing for all Kenyans regardless of their social economic status.

President Ruto announced that 178 out of 290 subcounties have been given the green light to construct the units.

“We are on course in our plan for the affordable housing with 178 subcounties being given a green light, ” he said.

Out of the 178, 29 subcounties are awaiting the groundbreaking ceremony.

Ruto was accompanied by Governor Susan Kihika, Lands CS Zacharia Njeru, State Department for Housing and Urban Development PS Charles Hinga, MPs and MCAs.

President Ruto excited the crowd as he boarded the excavation machine to ground-break the project.

He later addressed the public before he headed to Nakuru’s State Lodge.
