Arsenal amongst clubs eyeing Marseille’s Jordan Amavi on free transfer

A recent report from France has credited Arsenal with an interest in Marseille left-back, Jordan Amavi.

Arsenal need a left-back

Kieran Tierney is of course one of Arsenal’s top stars on his day. But he cannot play every single game for Arteta and co.

Cedric Soares has done a decent job covering for the former Celtic standout over recent months.

But the Portuguese also provides cover for Hector Bellerin, and though Arsenal are likely to be able to see out the remainder of the campaign without extra bodies at left-back, it is hard to see them getting through all of next season with Cedric as the only cover for both Tierney and Bellerin.

Bukayo Saka is capable of filling in at left-back, and has done so in the past, but that was largely in a back-five at wing-back. And, if Arteta is forced to play Saka in a defensive role, that, of course, diminishes the Gunners’ attacking threat.

So, whilst Arsenal probably don’t need to spend that much on a left-back in the summer, signing one looks essential.

Arsenal linked with Jordan Amavi

And, if recent reports stemming from France are true, then the north Londoners appear to have a decent budget option in their sights.

According to the Daily Star, citing French outlet le10Sport, Arsenal and AC Milan are among the clubs queuing up to try to tempt Jordan Amavi away from Marseille on a free transfer this summer.

The 27-year-old has spent the last two and a bit years plying his trade in France, since departing Aston Villa.

Amavi has notched over a century of appearances for Marseille. But despite still acting as a regular, the stopper’s future remains up in the air, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
