Atletico Madrid ‘ready to compete’ with Manchester United for Andre Silva

A recent report from Spain has credited Atletico Madrid with an interest in Andre Silva.

Silva’s Frankfurt stint

Andre Silva has had a fairly mixed senior career to date.

The centre-forward started out playing in his home country of Portugal, and developed into one of Porto’s most promising young stars. He then earned a big-money move to AC Milan in 2017.

However, Silva struggled for form in Italy, and was eventually loaned to Sevilla, where his fortunes were again mixed.

In turn, in September of 2020, Milan eventually decided to part ways with the now 25-year-old, moving him on to Eintracht Frankfurt.

And, since making the move to Germany, Silva has completely turned his career around.

Last season (during a loan stint), the attacker racked up 12 goals and four assists in 25 Bundesliga outings.

But it is the current campaign which has seen Silva produce some of his best football at senior level. The 37-time capped international has managed to score a staggering 20 goals, to go along with five assists, in just 24 league appearances.

Atletico Madrid & Man United eyeing Andre Silva

Such fine form, in turn, inevitably appears to have attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe.

A report from Sky Germany last month claimed that Manchester United are ‘intensively scouting’ Silva.

Given the fact that Man United’s main number nine at present is Anthony Martial, Silva would almost certainly be an upgrade for the Red Devils.

However, as mentioned above, it now appears that another of Europe’s top clubs are also eyeing the Portuguese hitman.

According to Goal, citing Spanish outlet Todofichajes,  Atletico Madrid are ready to compete with Man United for the signature of Silva.

It is suggested that Silva’s transfer fee would likely be around €35m-€40m, which, in today’s market, actually looks a fairly reasonable sum for a goalscorer of Silva’s quality.
