Ben Chilwell explains what Chelsea must add under Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea held by Leeds

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off saw Leeds United play host to Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel’s side headed into the tie on a fine run of form, which had seen them notch an 11-game unbeaten streak under the German across all competitions.

And when all was said and done at Elland Road, the Londoners were able to extend that unbeaten run.

However, a fairly wasteful Chelsea were unable to capitalise on their numerous chances, and were eventually forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

What Chelsea need to improve on

On the back of the stalemate, meanwhile, Ben Chilwell has since opened up on the Blues’ lack of end product in the final third.

Since Tuchel’s arrival, Chelsea have had the best defence in the English top-flight, conceding just two goals in 10 outings.

At the other end, though, the Londoners have not been scoring too may goals.

Across their last five league outings, for example, Chelsea have found the net more than once on just one occasion.

And this has prompted Chilwell, who was also keen to sing the praises of Edouard Mendy, to reveal his opinion that Tuchel’s men need to add more in the final third, and score more goals:

“We know that when it comes down to it we can rely on Edou. Those one or two opportunities in a game when he has to concentrate and make a vital save, we know he is going to do that for us.”

“Coming into the game people would have predicted goals. The way Leeds play is pretty free-flowing and they are a difficult team to play against. They switch positions a lot on the pitch and it was a tough game. It wasn’t the best pitch for both teams to play on but we created chances.“Leeds had a few chances but I think if you look at the chances we had, they were probably the better. I had a few chances and I had one in the second half when I should have scored.

“We need a bit more from each other in the final third and that is something we are trying to add. Defensively as a team we are solid and we are not conceding but going forward, we are going to want to score more goals to get us the wins.”
