Chelsea youth product Jamal Musiala makes Champions League history with Bayern Munich

Jamal Musiala tonight etched his name into the history books of the Champions League, with a goal in Bayern Munich’s drubbing of Lazio.

Bayern dominant

The German champions made the trip to the Stadio Olimpico a short time ago, for the first-leg of their Last-16 showdown with Simone Inzaghi’s outfit.

Bayern of course headed into proceedings as favourites to secure a positive result, despite a shaky spell of league form of late.

And, when all was said and done, secure a positive result is precisely what the Bavarian giants managed.

The clash was essentially killed off as a contest before half-time, as Hansi Flick’s rampant visitors raced out to a 3-goal lead.

Robert Lewandowski was unsurprisingly first on target, before Jamal Musiala made it two 25 minutes in, and Leroy Sane added yet another shortly before the interval:

A Francesco Acerbi own goal then added some gloss to the scoreline for Bayern early in the 2nd-half, with Joaquin Correa’s finish two minutes later having proven little more than a consolation for a shell-shocked Lazio side.

Musiala makes history

As outlined above, though, on a night when Bayern Munich’s host of high-profile stars continued to shine bright, it was in fact a player of just 17 years of age who went on to steal the headlines.

The youngster in question? Jamal Musiala.

Gifted attacking midfielder Musiala is actually a product of the youth system of Premier League giants Chelsea.

After spending eight years on the books of the Blues, however, the prodigious talent came to the decision to seek pastures new in the summer of 2019, swapping London for Munich at the age of just 16.

And to say that Chelsea’s loss has since proven Bayern’s gain would be putting it lightly.

Musiala has gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded young talents in Germany, en route to 16 Bundesliga appearances, and 3 goals, to this point in the campaign.

Tonight, though, marked a particularly special one for the English youth international.

A outlined above, Musiala notched the visitors’ 2nd of the game at the Olimpico, picking out the bottom corner of Pepe Reina’s net from the edge of the area:

And, in the process, the former Chelsea man became the youngest English player in history to find the net in the Champions League:
