Chelsea’s Timo Werner ‘brought down to earth’ over last few months

Werner’s Chelsea stint

Chelsea of course signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in the summer, for a reported £45m.

The German proved one of the Bundesliga’s standout stars last season, notching a staggering 34 goals and 13 assists in 45 outings across all competitions.

As a result, the Chelsea faithful were no doubt expecting to see Werner hit the ground running this season.

However, the hitman (despite his decline being somewhat exaggerated) has since not looked anywhere near as impressive as he did for Leipzig.

Werner brought down to earth

Werner has found the net just five times in the Premier League this season, with Tammy Abraham instead the Blues’ top-scorer in the English top-flight.

It is worth noting, though, that Werner has simply been rather unlucky at times, whilst smashing the woodwork on numerous occasions.

He has also provided eight assists, and won several penalties for the Londoners.

But, speaking recently, the 24-year-old himself admitted that his difficulties over the course of the last few months in England have ‘brought him down to earth’:

“At the beginning, I had this self-image that I can go on doing my thing here, but in the last few months I have been brought down to earth. It’s the way in England that you never have a quiet game.

“The players are 1.9 meters tall, brutal physically and really fast – including the defenders. It’s impressive what intensity is going on in the Premier League.”
