Edo Queens Pip Naija Ratels To Win 2023 Sheroes Cup

Emem Esien 38th minute strike was all Edo Queens needed to emerge champions of the 6th edition of Sheroes Cup.

Hosts, Naija Ratels were able to contain the attack firepower of the Benin Arsenals (who had scored 15 goals enroute the final) and would have leveled the scoreline but the Abuja based Nigeria Women’s Football League side were wasteful in front of goal.

Moses Aduku led Edo team were invisible throughout the competition winning all five matches and picked all individual awards in the preseason tournament. The scorer of the lone goal in the final, Emem Essien emerged the Highest Goal Scorer with five goals while Suliat Abideen picked the Most Valuable Player award. Etim Inyene emerged the best goalkeeper to win the Golden Glove award.

On the road to final, Edo Queens defeated Ekiti United, beat Dannaz FC and brushed aside Honey Badgers and handed a 2-0 victory to Sunshine Queens before a 1-0 win in the final.

Reacting to the successful hosting of the sixth edition, the organiser of the preseason tournament and CEO of Naija Ratels, elated Barrister Paul Edeh said he was fulfilled following the glamour, quality display of football artistry that gave glimpse of what the 2023/24 Nigeria Women’s Football League will look like.
