Flamingos Depart For Dominican Republic For Two-week Camping

The delegation of Flamingos on Tuesday departed the shores of Nigeria aboard a Turkish Airlines flight for a two-week training tour in Santo Domingo, capital city of the Dominican Republic, ahead of the commencement of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria has been placed in Group A for the 16-team tournament, where they will face host nation Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand. The tournament will take place from October 16 to November 3, 2024.

Bankole Olowookere, who led the team to third place finish at the last FIFA U17 Women”s World Cup in India is confident of a good outing in Dominican Republic. Olowookere had unveiled a 21-player squad for the upcoming FIFA age grade competition.

The squad is led by captain Taiwo Afolabi, with standout forwards Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong on the list.

Harmony Chidi played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s qualification campaign, scoring 13 of the team’s record-setting 25 goals as the Flamingoes secured their spot in the tournament. The team advanced past the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, and Liberia during the qualifiers.
