CAF President Patrice Motsepe has expressed his frustration over national teams playing outside their countries due to inadequate facilities.

His comments come after CAF banned Ghana from hosting home matches at the Baba Yara Stadium, the country’s only approved venue, due to the poor condition of the pitch.

Like Ghana, the Nigerian teams taking part in the CAF inter-club championships Rangers and Enyimba are playing their home games at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Motsepe was vocal in his criticism during a CAF meeting in Kenya. Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi, Motsepe said, “Nothing frustrates me more than a national team or club side having to play home matches outside.”

He emphasised the importance of playing in front of home fans, stating, “You can’t grow football if the national teams or club sides aren’t playing in front of their home fans.”
