Golf: 24th IBB Ladies Gold Tourney Tees off In Abuja

All is now set for the 24th IBB Ladies Golf tournament which tees-off Friday at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

The open event trophy which was won by Police woman, Amina Wilfred last year is up for grap as over 160 ladies have registered for the 3-day competition.

Speaking with journalists at the IBB golf club house, Lady Captain, Joy Ikwue said the event will feature participants from various golf clubs in Nigeria as well as golfers from some Africa countries.

” It is open to ladies from all over the world, and in this year’s edition, our paricipants will come from Nigeria, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana as well as resident diplomats,” she boasted.

The Club’s lady Captain noted that the tournament will be in gross format, which means, the winner will be the best gross player. She expressed excitement about the event.

“Though the 3-day competition is for players in handicap zero to twenty eight, handicap twenty-nine to Thirty -six, Veteran ladies in all handicaps in IBB Golf Club and Guests will also play in the tournament,” Joy Ikwue said.

The section’s Completion Secretary, Jane Ahmed said the newly introduced World handicap System will be used during the event. She said the competition had been designed to accommodate all levels of golfers who registered for the event.

Speaking also on the event, a member of the Ladies section and member of organising committee, Maryanne Ngban said the competition will serve as an opportunity to network among the host and visiting golfers.

“It gives an opportunity also for an exchange of ideas, and helps us as well to move the club to another level,” she said.

The tournament will also feature Gala night, prize presentation and closing ceremony on Sunday.
