Barcelona held by Cadiz
FC Barcelona were back in La Liga action on Sunday afternoon.
Ronald Koeman’s side have been in solid form in the league of late, though their cup exploits have been less than impressive – with their previous outing having of course culminated in a 4-1 hammering at the hands of PSG in the Champions League.
The Blaugrana, though, were nevertheless likely confident of returning to winning ways against a Cadiz side who had fallen to defeat in their previous four league outings.
In addition, after Atletico Madrid were handed a rare loss on Saturday, today’s game represented a great chance for the Catalans to gain some ground on their title rivals.
And Barca did indeed go on to take the lead in the tie, through a Lionel Messi penalty 32 minutes in.

However, a late Aleix Fernandez spot-kick at the other end put an end to Barca’s winning run in La Liga, leaving Koeman and co. to settle for a point in what looked a very winnable clash.
Lionel Messi’s latest Barcelona record
Their latest result also means that the Blaugrana remain eight points off top spot, and five adrift of Real Madrid in 2nd.
On what proved an otherwise disappointing afternoon for Barcelona, however, Lionel Messi set yet another record.
The Argentine was of course in from the off against Cadiz, in what marked his 506th appearance for the club.
This, in turn, saw Messi become the player with the most La Liga appearances in Barca’s history, a record previously held by one of his former teammates, Xavi Hernandez:
