No one champions in March

Pep Guardiola, speaking in his press conference ahead of hosting Wolves tomorrow night, said Bayern Munich are the best team in Europe, Liverpool are the best in England as they are still champions, and his team haven’t won anything yet:

The best team in Europe and in the world are Bayern Munich because they won everything. They are the best. In England the champions are Liverpool they are the best. The crowns if you want to take it you have to win. In February, March, nobody is Champions. We have to do well and try to win but we cannot deny the last few months are exceptional in terms of results.

City have the chance to make it 21 wins in a row tomorrow, but Guardiola is conscious of the threat that Wolves pose:

The history against them dictates and shows us how tough it will be tomorrow and we know it perfectly. We know exactly the type of game we have to play. We have to be so intense but in the same times be calm. They play with your ambition and patience to punish you. We have to be so clever, the way we have to play because the last years always so tough for their quality the structure and the players and this will not be an exception.

With his side 12 points clear at the top of the table, there will be no resting on laurels as Pep discussed that there is still a lot of football to be played:

36 points to play. There are a lot of points. In Europe and England every team can lose and lose and lose in a row in a week and drop points and everything will be the same. As a team we have to play well, run a lot without the ball, to take the points to be at the end close to be champions. We have to do many many things. Tough opponents. Tomorrow, United, Southampton, doing well in this period. Fulham, Leeds doing well, many games. When you have 10, 12, 15 points left it’s different, but 36? Many points.

Ake Out

Pep also confirmed that his squad is at full strength aside from the absence of Nathan Ake, their £41 million summer signing from Bournemouth.

It is an absence City will barely feel as John Stones and Ruben Dias continue to earn praise for their performances with both scoring in Saturday’s win over West Ham.

With his team in such great form and with the Quadruple looking less and less like a pipe dream following each performance, it seems only a matter of time before Pep’s City are considered the very best.
