A recent report from England has provided an insight into the transfer race for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
Haaland continues to impress
Haaland joined Dortmund in January of 2020, and he has since gone on to notch a sensational record both domestically and in Europe.
All told, Haaland has scored 43 and assisted 10 in just 43 outings for BVB, a return which only top players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski are usually able to provide in Europe’s top-five leagues.
The 20-year-old’s contract is believed to contain a release clause of around £65m, but that is not due to be active until 2022.
Man City favourites for Haaland
So, any side hoping to land the hitman in the coming summer window will no doubt be forced to pay a premium fee.
According to the Norwegian’s agent, Mino Raiola, only 10 clubs, four of whom are English, could even afford Haaland:
“Only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford to buy Haaland and give the platform you would like after you’ve been in Dortmund, and four of those clubs are in England.
“I don’t think there’s a sports director or trainer in the world who would say ‘not interested’. It’s like saying: ‘Is there a Formula 1 team who would not be interested in having Lewis Hamilton?’”
Amongst those English clubs, meanwhile, will no doubt be the big-money-backed Manchester City.
And, if the aforementioned report from the Daily Mail is to be believed, it is in fact the Sky Blues who are currently leading the race for the young hitman.
It is reported that Manchester United are reluctant to enter a bidding war for Haaland this summer, with City, in turn, emerging as favourites to land the BVB star.
