Fans of Italian Serie A side Napoli are anxious to hear if Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is staying in Naples for this season at least.
This development is the latest from Il Mattino (via TMW), and the word of Aurelio De Laurentiis is that Osimhen, who is being courted by Saudi Arabia, will remain at Napoli.
The Nigerian striker’s contract runs through until 2025, but Napoli want to tie him down to a new deal. The problem is Osimhen’s salary.
He is asking for between €10 million to €12 million a season, and the club are hesitant to oblige. There have been continuous meetings between Napoli and Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda, but they are yet to have reached an agreement.
The first round of Serie A games kick off on Saturday the 19th of August, and it is unlikely that a resolution will be reached by then. Having alreay lost Kim Min-Jae, Napoli cannot afford to lose another star player.
This week, Napoli CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis recently spoke to Sky Italia (via TMW) and he was asked about the situation of the Nigerian, amidst links with a move to Saudi Arabia.
He said: “Osimhen is staying, he has a contract for another two years and so where should he go? The contracts must be respected by both the parties being a bilateral relationship. With Osimhen there was bilaterality from the first moment and we get along very well. Stay calm.”
