Saint-Maximin & Almiron out

Newcastle have been dealt a big blow with regards to attacking midfielders Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle released the following statement:

‘Newcastle United forwards Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin will be out of action until April after picking up injuries during the Magpies’ 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday.

Almirón sustained a knee injury and had to be replaced at half time, while Saint-Maximin suffered a groin injury in the 63rd minute. Both have undergone scans and will continue their rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.’

However, there was good news regarding Sweden defender Emil Krafth.

‘Defender Emil Krafth, who was substituted in the same game, is set to resume training later this week.’

With the pair out, Steve Bruce will be looking to the likes of Ryan Fraser, Matt Ritchie and Joe Willock to step up from midfield and provide the goals which have been lost from the injury to the French and Paraguayan attackers.

Wilson working triple time

Newcastle lost Saint-Maximin and Almiron after star striker Callum Wilson had also suffered an injury of his own, leaving Steve Bruce even weaker in attack. The England international has said that he is working extremely hard to come back as soon as possible to help the side finish in a healthy position.

“Where will we finish? We’ll finish in a very safe place,” Wilson said on the Super Six podcast. “I’m not sure on league position, I’m not sure on a number, but I don’t personally want another relegation on my CV.”

“I will do everything in my power to make that not happen. I’m working extremely hard – double, triple sessions. I’m actually due another session in a minute. It’s all good.”

“Like I say, I’m going to make sure that I’m back and making a season a success after last season’s because it ended in relegation.”

“Having back-to-back relegations…I ain’t being that guy. I’m going to come back firing on all cylinders basically.”

“I need to make sure I hit the ground running straight away because the team needs goals and I need to help out. I’m doing everything in my power to do that.”

Newcastle will be coming up against West Brom, Aston Villa and Brighton in three pivotal fixtures this month which Steve Bruce will need to negotiate without many of his top players.
