‘Number of clubs’ monitoring Tammy Abraham’s situation at Chelsea

Abraham struggling under Tuchel

Tammy Abraham has had a fairly strange season so far.

With 12 goals, the 23-year-old is currently Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions.

However, since Thomas Tuchel took the reins at Stamford Bridge, the hitman has struggled for regular football.

In the Premier League, for example, Abraham is yet to see out more than 45 minutes under the German.

Abraham was also completely omitted from the Blues’ matchday squad to take on Manchester United on Sunday.

It was initially claimed that the striker was left out due to an ankle issue:

But, when drawn on Abraham’s absence post-match, Tuchel made no reference to an injury, simply citing selection issues:

“Selection. We have 21 strong players and only 18 possible [to be picked]. It is my job to take hard decisions,” said the German.

“This was the decision for 18 guys and Tammy was not with the group. “At the moment he is only struggling with my decision. We have a strong squad. We have only Thiago Silva injured that means we have to make hard decisions. We can nominate 18 players, plus goalkeepers so it is clear.”

Clubs eyeing Abraham

And now, a report from the Telegraph on Monday has cast further doubt over Abraham’s long-term future under Tuchel.

The Englishman will have two years left on his current contract come the summer, with it suggested that that Chelsea are yet to open negotiations over a new deal.

And a number of clubs, in turn, are said to be monitoring the forward’s situation.

No sides are definitively named as possessing concrete interest in Abraham, but the report does speculate that all of West Ham, Leicester, Brighton and Juventus will likely be looking for a striker in the summer.
