U20 World Cup: Korea Ends Flying Eagles Run

The hope of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles reaching the semi-final of the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina has finally ended as they lost to the Korea Republic.

Nigeria defeated Argentina 2-0 in the Round of 16 to reach the quarter-final while Korea thrashed Ecuador 3-2 to reach the last 8.

The game which was played at Santiago on Sunday, saw fireworks from both teams with the Nigerian side losing begging chances as the first stanza ended in a goalless draw.

The second half resumed but both sides found it hard to find the back of the net.

Nigeria skipper Bameyi has his shot saved by the Korean goalkeeper in the 49th minute and Nigeria’s backline had to stand strong to stop the attack line of the Asians.

After both sides could not be separated, they moved into the extra time and Seokyun Choi put the Koreans ahead in the 95th from a corner kick.

The two-time first runners-up tried to come back into the game but the Korean defence line defended strongly to deny the African side and ended the game 1-0.
