‘We will be back for sure’ – Mauricio Pochettino’s assistant opens door to Spurs return

Jesus Perez, Mauricio Pochettino’s right-hand man, has seemingly confirmed that the former Tottenham boss, along with his staff, intend to return to the club down the line.

PSG switch

Argentine tactician Pochettino of course brought his 5-year association with Spurs to an end late in 2019.

Just months on from his crowning achievement as a manager, in guiding the Lilywhites all the way to the Champions League final, it was decided that the former Southampton boss would be moved on, on the back of a dismal opening to last season.

From here, Poch surprisingly remained out of work for a full year, before eventually returning to the bench this past January.

The 49-year-old was chosen as the man to replace Thomas Tuchel at Ligue 1 giants PSG, where he has since taken charge of some of world football’s finest.

An altogether hit and miss opening to his stint on the bench in Paris sees the French champions trail Lille at the Ligue 1 summit, but continuing to impress in Europe, with PSG having of course ousted Barcelona from the Champions League in comprehensive fashion just last night.

‘Will be back’

As such, a long and trophy-laden partnership is no doubt being eyed by both Pochettino himself, and the board at the Parc des Princes.

As outlined above, however, if the latest comments on the part of his right-hand man are anything to go by, then the Argentine, at some point down the line at least, fully intends to return to north London.

Speaking in an interview with the Evening Standard this week, Jesus Perez, Pochettino’s long-time assistant, confirmed that the PSG boss remains on excellent terms with Tottenham chief Daniel Levy:

‘Every day Daniel crossed to Mauricio’s office and he joined us on the topic we were discussing.’

‘Then most of the time we had breakfast with him and lunch at the training ground. We, as a staff, never started lunch until Mauricio or Daniel was at the table. That’s something we always respected.’

‘Mauricio and Daniel still text each other and they have a very good relationship. We don’t have any bad feelings with Daniel. The other way around. It was a professional decision.’

Crucially, Perez then went on to add:

‘At some point, we had to split but we will be back at Spurs for sure.’
