West Ham boss David Moyes discusses Manchester United, VAR & Chris Wilder ahead of Old Trafford test

One of the weekend’s more high-profile Premier League clashes is set to play out on Sunday evening.

Manchester United will welcome West Ham to Old Trafford, for what could prove a huge tie in the race for Champions League football.

West Ham currently sit 5^th in the Premier League table, six points behind Manchester United.

However, should the Hammers see off their hosts on Sunday, and then win their game in hand, they would actually go level on points with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

A win in Manchester could also see West Ham overtake 4^th-placed Chelsea, whom they sit just two points behind, and boast a game in hand on.

Ahead of a crucial outing for his side, meanwhile, David Moyes spoke to the media on Friday afternoon.

During his pre-match press conference, the West Ham boss discussed a number of topics.

One surrounded his opponents this weekend, from whom Moyes is expecting a testing 90 minutes:

“We go there with a lot of credit in the bank with how we played there a few weeks ago – we took them to extra time and ran them close. They’ve got really good qualities. The game at home we played even better than we did at Old Trafford [a 3-1 defeat].

“Manchester United have played well – they proved that against Manchester City – so it’s a tough game for us.”

The Scotsman was also drawn on VAR, and went on to voice his opinion that it has caused too many problems:

“I think that VAR has not enhanced the game. It’s caused many problems. I think there are parts of VAR we have to pick up.

“We’ve been sent a survey and I hope everybody will look at it and have their thoughts on it. At the moment, for example the handball rules, rules on slight offsides… some of the things that have come out of it, I don’t think we’ve been keen on. I think it’s hard to accept errors when they’re also looking at the screens.”

Moyes then provided his take on the imminent sacking of Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder:

“I’m surprised. We’ve come to the stage where you see lots of people losing their jobs when you’re near the bottom of the league.

“If anything shows you how precarious being a football manager is, it’s what Chris has done – he had a super season last year, but this season has found it tough. He won’t be short of a job – people will recognise what he’s capable of.”
