Wolves vs Liverpool
This weekend’s Premier League action will draw to a close on Monday evening.
The final tie of the gameweek sees Liverpool face a trip to Wolves, as they aim to build on a midweek triumph over RB Leipzig.
Despite putting two past one of the Bundesliga’s top sides on Wednesday, the Reds have been in simply woeful form of late.
Defeat at the hands of relegation-battling Fulham last weekend marked a historic 6th straight at Anfield for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
In turn, their hopes of even securing a top-four berth have taken a huge hit.
At present, Liverpool sit all the way down in 8th in the Premier League table, a full eight points adrift of 4th. The Merseysiders are also three points off a Europa League spot.
Why Pedro Neto wants to face van Dijk & Gomez
So, if any form of European qualification is to be secured via the league, then Liverpool must turn their domestic form around ASAP.
And they should have a decent chance of doing so on Monday, against a Wolves side who struggle to score goals.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are currently 13th in the Premier League, with one of the worst goalscoring records outside the relegation-battling outfits.
Despite not being in the best form of late, though, one Wolves player this weekend revealed that he would rather face the sidelined Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, than Liverpool’s current crop of defenders.
That man is 21-year-old winger Pedro Neto, who explained that he would be keen to face arguably Liverpool’s top centre-back pairing, in a bid to improve as a player:
“I’d prefer it if Van Dijk and Gomez were playing because I want to play against the best so I can improve.
“What’s the best thing in football? When we can play with the best. That’s why I’m in this league, to show I can do my job and play my own game.”
